School Prospectus - Organisation of the School Day

Organisation of the School Day

School Times

School starts at 9.00am and ends at 3.15pm.  There is a fifteen minute morning break, and an hours break for lunch. KS1 also have an afternoon break.

Entering School

To encourage children to become confident and independent, and in order that they may enter school safely, no child should arrive in school before 8.45a.m., and with the exception of new reception children, they should enter school on their own.  Children use the side gate when entering school. Lunch boxes and bags should be put in their correct places before going into the playground, or before beginning their set activities.

Free fruit is available fro all KS1 children at morning break and there is often some available for KS2 as well.  We do not allow snacks of any other sort at break as we are a Healthy School and encourage healthy eating. Milk is available in one-third pint cartons, including free school milk for under-fives.  Parents should only come into school if they specifically need to speak to a teacher or visit the office.  Reception class children are encouraged to ask parents to support with choosing reading books. Please leave pushchairs in the playground.  Again for safety reasons, all parents should vacate the playground and buildings by 8.55a.m.

Security

During school hours the front entrance door is locked, and visitors are requested to ring the bell for admission.  All visitors are asked to sign the visitors' book, both when arriving and departing.

Lunchtime Supervision

Children may bring a packed lunch or return home for lunch. Please encourage your children to eat healthily.  No sweets please! Our aim is to maintain a high standard of table manners and acceptable behaviour at lunchtime.  Unacceptable behaviour will be reported to parents and if necessary, a child may be excluded at lunchtime due to persistent poor behaviour.  Children should sit up straight with feet under the table, and eat quietly.  Please send drinks in an unbreakable container, and provide a spoon for yoghurt and a straw or plastic cup for your child's drink.  Fizzy drinks are not acceptable.  The children are supervised at all times by staff.

Water

There is drinking water in each classroom and children have access to water throughout the day.  Each child is encouraged to bring in a water bottle.

After-School Arrangements

It is the school policy for all children in the Reception Class to be met by their parents at the hall door.  The Reception class teacher does not release children until she sees that a parent is present.  This is done with the safety of the children in mind and we would especially discourage the younger children from walking unattended to cars.

It is important that the school is notified, by letter or telephone call, if there is any change in after-school arrangements.  We are unable to accept verbal instructions from a child.  Please send a telephone or written message if your child needs to leave school to attend the doctor, dentist, etc.  Children must be collected from school and cannot be sent home.

Change in Circumstances

Please notify us immediately of any change in address, contact number, etc.  It is also important that you notify us of any change of family circumstances which might affect your child's work or behaviour. Such information should be given directly to the Headteacher and will be treated confidentially.

Collection of Money

All money, forms, letters etc. sent to school should be in a sealed, clearly named envelope which your child will put in a ‘special’ tray in their classroom, and not taken directly to the office.   Please do not hesitate to contact the office if you wish to pay for any educational visit by weekly or monthly instalments.  I am aware of financial pressures on families!
