There is an opportunity to discuss your child's work and progress at parents' evening. Comprehensive written reports are sent out during July. Parents are welcome to school to discuss their children at any time - please phone the office for an appointment.
Special Educational Needs
The school has a policy for SEN which includes 'More Able Pupils'. Pupils with Special Educational Needs are supported in accordance with the new 'Code of Practice on the identification and assessment of Special Educational Needs.'
There are three stages identified within the Code of Practice and children are placed at a stage appropriate to the level of support they require, and individual education plans (IEPs) are put into place. School Action children are monitored by the class teacher. School Action Plus involves the SEN co-ordinator and discussions with outside agencies (LST – Learning Support Team). They advise the school on suitable exercises and resources to suit the child’s needs. At the final stage pupils who require a significant amount of support to enable them to fully access the school's curriculum will be assessed for a Statement of Special Educational Needs.
Parents of pupils at the second and final stages of the SEN Register will be invited to attend regular Review meetings to discuss their child's progress. Parents of children at the school support stage will also be informed of the school provision. Strong links between home and school are highly valued as a major contributor to children's progress and well being. We welcome parents' interest and involvement in the support we aim to provide.
Teaching Assistants
Teaching Assistants are employed in every classroom during the morning. The Teaching Assistants are also lunchtime carers, supporting with eating their lunch and overseeing in the playground.
