School Prospectus - Admissions

Admission of Pupils

Full details relating to admissions are set out in the current LEA book 'Information for Parents’, part of section 5.1A is as follows:-

When there are more applications than places, in a County or Voluntary Controlled school, children are admitted on the basis of the published policy listed in the following order of priority:

     i.            pupils living within the catchment area of the school;

pupils who would still have a brother or sister (sibling connection) at school at the time of admission;

   ii.            pupils living outside the catchment area of the school who would still have a brother or sister (sibling connection) at the school at the time of admission;

 iii.             pupils who have a significant reason for admission, such reasons, the validity of

     which will be determined by the Directorate of Educational Services, will include

     medical, social or compassionate grounds.  Parents are required to produce a

     medical certificate or other appropriate information from an independent source.

     Significant reasons will not be considered unless supporting information is attached

     to your application form when submitted;

 iv.            pupils who were attending a feeder school at the time of application;

   v.            pupils who live nearest to the school by the shortest available walking route.

N.B. Children looked after by the Local Authority have priority within each category of the criteria.

Where there are too many applications from within the catchment area, priority will be decided in the order indicated above to all catchment area applicants, i.e. children looked after by the Local Authority first, brothers/sisters (siblings) second, significant reasons third, attendance at feeder school fourth, then according to distance, each assessed as indicated above.

If all pupils from the catchment area can be accommodated, but there are insufficient places for all out-area siblings, priorities will be decided first by reference to any children looked after by the Local Authority, second to significant reason, third by attendance at feeder school, then according to distance, assessed as indicated above.

All parents, those living within the catchment area as well as those who do not, are asked to complete form PA1 and return it to school by a date specified by the Local Education Authority.  Parents are not obliged to take up places for their children any earlier than the law requires, but are urged to discuss such decisions with the school first, and still need to apply so that a place can be reserved.  During the term preceding their admission children will be invited into school to meet their class teacher and familiarise themselves with the school routine.

Transfer to Middle School

The age of transfer from Sedgeberrow First School to Bredon Hill Middle School is ten years, and the date for determining this transfer is September 1st.

A special induction day is arranged towards the end of the summer term, and discussion takes place between staff to ensure that pupils transfer smoothly.  Several cluster events, such as a Maths Trail, walk and picnic on Bredon Hill, Music Concert etc. are organised to enable the children to meet prior to their transfer.
