Our over-riding aim is to enable all pupils to develop, as fully as possible, their own unique potential in a happy, secure environment. We have high expectations and strive for pupils to achieve good standards in all areas of learning, as well as develop a caring attitude towards others.
We extend a warm welcome to parents and invite you to visit the classrooms and see our excellent resources and the children’s enjoyment of them. We shall value your support and hope that you will join us in as many school events as possible. My staff and I will always be delighted to discuss with you any questions you may have regarding your child’s education.
We look forward to a long and happy partnership with you while your child is at our School.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs M M Humphreys
“ A school which makes you long for childhood”
At Sedgeberrow Church of England First School our main aim is to provide a welcoming, secure and stimulating learning environment where all staff and children are HAPPY. Within this we then ensure that a combination of excellence in teaching and learning helps every child to develop as an enthusiastic and independent learner within the Christian ethos and values that are part of everyday school life – living, learning, laughing.
We recognise the value of each child as an individual and believe that an effective curriculum will enable all learners to feel gifted and talented. Therefore our staff are committed to a creative and inspirational arts-rich curriculum that will introduce ‘awe and wonder’ into the lives of their pupils who thus become engaged by learning that develops and challenges them and excites their imagination. We encourage children to use the world they live in and prepare them for living in the 21st century.
We aim for the highest possible quality of learning and teaching in order to continually raise standards. We believe that learning builds on the needs of the children and thus provide a variety of different teaching styles and practices to ensure progression. Continuous self-evaluation as a result of training, professional development, appraisal, consultation with governors, parents, staff, children and the community underpins school improvement.
We believe that basic standards of good behaviour require all our pupils to be considerate, polite, respectful and helpful towards each other and all adults. We place high importance on self-esteem and healthy living and work hard to ensure that our pupils recognise the need to be responsible ad reliable citizens who can keep to promises made.
Built in 1969 the school has a good sized site with six classrooms, library/computer suite, playground, field with extensive play equipment, environmental pond area and garden. Each KS1 class has its own outdoor area and we have recently developed a forest area for creative play and thinking skills. The hall is used by the community for evening and weekend activities under the direction of the Village Hall Committee. Adjoining the hall are village community rooms which allow close liaison with playgroup and other village societies.
Teaching and non-teaching staff work closely together to foster the values of a traditional village school where the children's contribution to the overall character and happy, family atmosphere is valued. The children are encouraged to live in harmony with, and to develop respect for others and their surroundings. Politeness and taking care of the school environment is expected at all times.
Governors, parents and friends are welcomed and utilised extensively throughout the school in a wide range of support activities, and offers of help are always gratefully received. In addition to the normal curriculum, children are given the opportunity to take part in many extra activities, including off-site residential trips. We offer a broad, balanced, exciting curriculum, with great emphasis on achieving the highest possible standards. Recent Government initiatives have been incorporated effectively into the curriculum, in order to remain at the forefront of education. We fully support the Government’s document ‘Every Child Matters’.
We were delighted with our OFSTED Inspection Report, and are also proud to have received the Sport England Activemark Gold Award for sporting excellence, three School Achievement Awards from the DfES, the Investors in People Award, the National Healthy Schools Standard, Charter Standard Status for achievement in football and, more recently, the Artsmark Silver Award. We are also a Leading Aspects school for The Arts.
At the beginning of the school year parents are invited to meet the teachers to discuss class routines. Teachers allocate one evening per week to discuss any school issues parents may wish to raise. Parents' evenings are held regularly, giving the opportunity to learn more about the curriculum and to discuss children’s progress and development. Throughout the year we hold many social events.
The School Prospectus cannot fully convey the richness and variety of opportunities, therefore if there is anything you wish to ask about the school I shall be pleased to see you and answer any queries you may have.
